On the 29th July, we held our monthly social meeting at Lake Yard, Hamworthy. Our monthly socials are just what they say on the tin – an opportunity for members to mingle, chat and receive updates on the charity. But each month we also enjoy a talk from a variety of organisations. This time, Border Force and the Police came along to tell us about their work.
We were delighted to welcome a local marine Police officer as well as an agent from Border Force to provide a talk on their work in combatting drug smuggling on the Dorset coast.
It’s no small task monitoring the many miles of stunning scenery that we take for granted. However, our picturesque coves, bays and inlets also provide an opportunity for those with sinister motives to operate.
Throughout this fascinating talk we learnt about the types of crime being committed and what we, as every day boaters, can do to play our part in stopping it.
This is achieved by way of ‘Project Kraken’, a national scheme to report suspicious activity and behaviour around our coast. Click on the link below to learn about the scheme here in Dorset:

Our thanks to the Police and Border Force for an interesting and informative talk!
