About the MVS

30 years of supporting the maritime community

The MVS is a not-for-profit national charity, with branches throughout the UK, that is dependent upon our member support to operate our vessels and manage the organisation.

How training supports the harbour community

The MVS in Poole - a brief history

What we do

The charity provides training and experience in maritime skills, where our primary aim in Poole is to provide assistance to the Harbour Master in managing the safety and activity of harbour users, especially at weekends from Easter until early autumn.

We don’t have an office or HQ but we meet monthly in various locations, generally on a Monday evening, and run harbour patrols and training afloat and ashore, throughout the year.

Membership is open to anyone over 18 years age, with our training programme designed to teach from introductory levels, based broadly on the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) as a benchmark, albeit we welcome experienced mariners as well.
