Poole's lifting bridges

Useful information for mariners

Poole Harbour is home to two lifting bridges which span the Backwater Channel, connecting the port facilities in Hamworthy with Poole.

About the bridges

The bridges are operated by BCP Council, the local authority. However, navigation between the bridges is the responsibility of Poole Harbour Commissioners.

As part of our commitment to supporting the Harbour Master, we conduct patrols between the bridges throughout the season to provide advice and assistance to vessels, in liaison with Harbour Control and the Bridge Operator.

This includes logging ‘incidents’ that occur, for further pursual by the Harbour Master.
