MVS Poole buoyed up for air show

Members from MVS Poole have contributed to the preparations for the 2018 Bournemouth Air Festival by placing marker buoys in Poole Bay prior to start of the popular air show.

On Wednesday 28th August, St Elin and Skua, manned by MVS Poole crew towed eight large Seaflex orange marker buoys and an assortment of floating mooring buoys from Poole Harbour to Bournemouth’s seafront to mark out the Safety Exclusion Zone.

The Safety Exclusion Zone is an area of water directly underneath the display airspace which must be kept free to allow planned water landings and emergency recovery for participating aircraft should the need arise.

Vessels from MVS Poole patrol the Zone throughout the festival and assist leisure craft in maintaining adequate clearance.

MVS Poole has been a key part of Bournemouth Air Festival in recent years, aiming to provide “an effective and professional marine operation to support Bournemouth Borough Council”.
