Did you know that in a 2022 public survey, only 0.1% of participants realised that over 90% of the UK’s trade is carried by sea? If so, you’re not alone.
In recent decades, public knowledge of Britain’s seagoing heritage and our continued reliance on seaborne trade has dramatically fallen. This has led to the term ‘sea blindness’ being coined.
The Seafarers’ Charity aims to help dispel that blindness by promoting Merchant Navy Day, which falls on the 3rd September each year. The purpose of the event is to celebrate and remember those who served in the past, present and future.
MVS Poole is proud to fly our own defaced Red Ensign every time our vessels leave the berth. Today, we’re especially proud.
