Visit to Simulator at Solent University

In the Control Room
Simulating loading a Container Ship

7 members visited the brand new maritime simulation centre in Southampton based in a new ‘high tech’ building. We viewed the 8 full mission simulation bridges, learnt how they were being used and what they are capable of, had a go on the container crane loading simulator, learnt about the importance of HV training on modern ships (which often do not have propeller shafts) and visited the engine control room simulator and three simulated engine rooms.

A fascinating insight into modern ship technology, design, training and were offered a glimpse of what the future may offer. Also an update to what a ‘state of the art’ learning institution looks like today.
