MVS Poole help mark D-Day anniversary

MVS Poole were proud to have been invited to participate in BCP Council’s commemorations for the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

The event was marked by a flotilla of local professional vessels sailing in procession from Poole Quay in front of assembled crowds, to the Aunt Betty buoy before escorting the Brittany Ferries vessel Barfleur on her return from France.

On return to Poole Quay the flotilla undertook two circuits of the Quay for the public to see, backed up by a commentary showcasing each organisation’s vessels and their work in the harbour, with a cacophony of noise as the assembled craft sounded their whistles.

All the vessels participating were dressed for the occasion with signal flags, to the delight of those watching.

In addition to the MVS, Poole Harbour Commissioners, the Police, RNLI, Jenkins Marine and other commercial operators were represented at the historic event.

Our own vessel, Avocet, was crewed for the evening by Ian, Alan, Simon and Mike.
