Visit to Harbour Control

Four members visited Harbour Control and viewed the extensive navigation and communication equipment. We were able to meet the Controller on duty and chat about management of the harbour and how the MVS could best assist. On the water training

Regular practical training sessions are underway to help everyone to develop their skills and practise boat handling. Here we see Avocet towing Peaceweek, who has suffered a pretend engine failure. Members can view, and reserve a place on, training sessions advertised in the members area of our website.

Safety – Part of What We Do

Avocet crew recovered a substantial piece of wreckage, floating just below the surface, whilst on Patrol. The consequences of a fast boat or water-skier striking, what looks like an engine housing, don’t bear thinking about. This recovery is as important a contribution to Harbour safety as anything else we do.

Winter preparations on Tom Sherrin

New keel for Tom Sherrin

Work continues on the Tom Sherrin project, with a new keel recently fitted. The keel has now been shaped and the gunwales/strake has been fitted by Cserve’s Dale and MVS Poole’s David.

Spring clean for Avocet

Volunteers from MVS Poole recently assisted other harbour users whilst on voluntary harbour patrol.
